Supporting Community Leadership and Action - Whole Population

During the extensive community consultation phase of Let's Beat Diabetes (LBD), many community organisations and/or groups acknowledged the important role they could play in encouraging and bringing about healthy, active ‘communities’ by developing and implementing initiatives that support improved nutrition and physical activity.  But resources and support were seen as barriers.

Interventions/Initiatives for 2005/2006

In 2005/2006, $100,000 will be available under the CAF. All initiatives will be monitored, reviewed and evaluated to ensure the funds are used appropriately, and the initiatives have contributed to improved health outcomes.

1.1 Community Action Fund (CAF)

Community organisations and/or groups are supported to develop and implement ‘grassroots’ initiatives that encourage local participation in activities that reduce diabetes risk, slow disease progression and/or improve the quality of life for people with diabetes.

Review/audit reveals funds used in appropriate manner.
