Supporting Community Leadership and Action - Workplace

Healthy, Active Workplaces

The workplace is identified in public health literature as being one of the key intervention areas to support improved population health. Maaori and Pacific peoples have also identified the workplace as an important setting for public health interventions.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) leads this action area on behalf of Let's Beat Diabetes with Heartbeat Challenge being the workplace health programme.

 Heartbeat Challenge Programme

The Heartbeat Challenge (HBC) programme is offered to partner organisations and has been successfully implemented by Counties Manukau District Health Board and Housing New Zealand Corporation.

The programme is based on best practice and aims to enhance, develop and implement policies and initiatives that support, healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation, stress management and workplace balance.

The programme is also delivered through the Counties Manukau region to workplaces which employee high numbers of Maaori and/or Pacific people and/or lower socio-economic staff.
